About Marcus

Marcus works with wood veneers such as oak, beech and mahogany, water-based dies and various types of oil, wax and varnish to finish the pieces. He creates panels by cutting, coloring and combining the various wooden elements and will then choose a finish that will enhance the elements of the work. He often uses decorative paper to surround the panels and finishes the pieces with hand-crafted wooden frames where he also applies his staining and finishing techniques, Marcus believes these frames are an integral part of the pieces. The signature of the pieces is made by a combination of the colors and wood used in the piece to create a unique expression marking the completion of the piece. As his techniques and art develops, he is beginning to explore the textures and colors of different metal elements and gilts to incorporate into his art.

Marcus is self-taught and has developed these ideas and techniques through some trial and many errors. He feels fortunate to have left a long corporate career with enough time and curiosity to take up this new passion and has created around 20 pieces in the last year.
